Team Mercedes have announced the signing of reserve driver Mick Schumacher for the 2023 season. Mick will help develop the W14 car, run the simulator at Brackley, attend all of the season’s Grand Prix and participate in Mercedes’ marketing activities.
Michael Schumacher: “I am very happy to be part of the Mercedes team in 2023 as a reserve driver. I will do my best to contribute to the team’s work in a very competitive environment with rivals.
This is a fresh start for me so I’m excited and grateful to Toto and everyone involved for their trust in me. Formula 1 is an exciting world where you never stop learning, so I look forward to learning more and doing my best for the Mercedes team.”
Toto Wolff, team principal: “Mick is a talented young rider and we are delighted to have him on the team. He is hardworking, has a calm and methodical approach, but still wants to learn and improve as a rider. These are very important qualities and we are happy that he will help us to complete W14.
In addition, with two years of experience in Formula 1, Mick is ready to get behind the wheel as soon as possible and replace Lewis or George if necessary.
