Based on sources, the British publication Autocar reports that Alpine is looking for a strategic investor to increase its share in the European and Chinese markets and to finance the Formula 1 team.
The publication claims that Alpine is in talks to work closely with Lotus and its parent company Geely, which recently entered into a joint venture with Renault to produce internal combustion engines. Alpine and Lotus are already working on a joint new model, but now Alpine is offering to invest more in exchange for a stake in the Formula 1 team.
The offer may be of interest to Geely, which highly appreciates Formula 1’s marketing potential and has been eyeing the championship for a long time. However, sources claim that Alpine is willing to consider proposals from other potential investors, but the company is not interested in selling the entire Formula 1 team.
