Brundle: Seidl’s departure is bad news for McLaren

British Sky Sports pundit and commentator Martin Brandl commented on Andreas Seidl’s move from McLaren to Sauber. The former Formula 1 driver believes the departure of the German specialist could negatively affect the mood of the team’s drivers – Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri.

Martin Brandl: “The loss of Seidl is undoubtedly bad news for McLaren in the long run. He had a long relationship with Volkswagen and Porsche, so I can understand his decision and understand why McLaren decided to let him go as soon as possible, but this is not what McLaren needs.

The most important thing for McLaren is a new wind tunnel, which should be launched by 2024. Lando will wonder why Andreas suddenly decided to abandon ship? What did he see in the Audi project that McLaren doesn’t see? Oscar will also be disappointed, because all the negotiations, all the plans for the future that he had were connected with Andreas.

Lando has a very good relationship with Zach Brown, he’s doing a great job and McLaren has a solid structure. I’m not worried about the team, but Andreas’ departure is not good news.”

Speaking of the dismissal of Mattia Binotto and the appointment of Frederic Vasseur to his position, Martin Brundle joined those who see the reshuffle at Ferrari as good news for the Italian team’s rivals.

“If I were in Mercedes or Red Bull’s place, I would smile at such news, because continuity is everything in Formula 1. As the seasons get longer and more intense, you have to be very careful with such drastic changes in management .” .

Mercedes and Red Bull have continuity – the same people have been in key positions for years. Frederic Vasseur has yet to find his way, settle in and understand that this is a difficult task. It doesn’t matter who you are, it will take time if you are not part of the team like Stefano Domenicali or Mattia Binotto.”
