Max Verstappen said he would like to try endurance racing in a few years, and in the same crew as his father.
The two-time world champion has a contract with Red Bull Racing until the end of 2028, which means he will be 31 years old when he is free of obligations to the team. And while everyone sees the example of Fernando Alonso, who will be 42 next year, and he is still in Formula 1, Max cannot imagine staying in the championship that long. However, he is also attracted to other forms of motorsport.
Verstappen was asked in an interview with Scandinavian TV channel Viaplay how old he was considered to be in racing.
“Certainly not like Alonso! And not in Formula 1, but who knows in which other series I would like to drive”, Max replied. “But I definitely want to race in endurance at some point. Maybe this will happen in a few years, maybe in two or three years I will have a desire to compete in this category. And together with his father, otherwise he will be too old!
Even though Max doesn’t start racing until he is 40, he admires Fernando Alonso, who hasn’t lost any of his speed or motivation even in his 50s: “He’s a fast racer and he still has a very fighting spirit. Every time I talk to him, I feel like I’m talking to a 30-year-old man who still has half his career ahead of him. Fernando loves racing, so he continues to participate.
