Riccardo: Examples from Alonso and Magnussen are encouraging

Daniel Ricciardo is going to celebrate Christmas in his home country, Australia, where he has his own farm, and judging by the photos he shares on social networks, he is now more concerned about agricultural matters.

However, he is unlikely to do all this for too long, as he plans to tour America on a motorcycle in 2023, resume training and join Red Bull Racing as a reserve driver.

At the same time, Daniel does not lose hope of returning to racing in 2024 after two not very successful seasons at McLaren, which ended in an early termination of the contract. He is most inspired by the example of Fernando Alonso, who missed a few seasons before signing a contract with Alpine F1, and now moving to Aston Martin, although the two-time world champion has already traded in his fifth decade: in 2023 he 42.

“Of course I know myself better than anyone else, and I know what I need, what can help me and so on, so I’m sure skipping the season will do me good,” says Ricciardo. – Moreover, if I see examples of Alonso or Magnussen, and these are all good examples, then of course we can say that this also adds optimism.

Everyone has different sources of motivation and skipping a season can affect each of us in different ways, but just look at the example of Fernando: he always had a love for racing and after a certain time he returned to Formula 1.

I feel like I need to step away from racing a bit further than maybe he did at the time. In my case this will give a stronger effect – I think it will help me. But such examples give hope.”

There are of course no guarantees that Riccardo will be back in action in a year’s time, especially as Alonso has repeatedly stressed that he is only interested in racing in life, and Daniel is also passionate about other projects, particularly under the DR3 brand he brings together with the Australian by St. Hugo.

Next year will show how his interests outweigh his interests and whether he has the will and determination to really remind fans that it is no coincidence that he has eight victories in Formula 1 in his time.
