Construction of a new base for the Aston Martin team continues at Silverstone. The UK team’s press service has published a new video detailing the progress of construction work.
Construction, including the installation of a new wind tunnel, is scheduled to be completed by 2024. The new base will consist of three buildings with an area of 37,000 square meters. The design, production and marketing departments will be housed in one building, the new wind tunnel in the second and the administrative and logistics center in the third.
However, the territory available to the team is limited, so demolishing old buildings is essential. In 2023, the old base building, which was in use more than thirty years ago when the team made its debut in Formula 1 under the name Jordan, will be demolished.
The old base building is where the cars that won five Formula 1 victories were designed and assembled – in Belgium in 1998, France and Italy in 1999, in Brazil in 2003 as Jordan and in Sahir in 2020 as Racing Point.
Guy Austin, Aston Martin’s new base project manager, said of the demolition plans: “I was involved in the design and construction of the original base for Eddie Jordan in 1990. What are our plans now? After the team moves to the new Building One base next summer, we will demolish the old building, which will be a sad day in many ways.
A new building is being built on the site of the old base. There will be a staff canteen, gymnasium and fitness studio, but most of the space will be taken up by the logistics department. With so many road races, the logistics have become a real nightmare, so the team needs a lot of space to pack and unpack. In addition, there will be a simulator in the new building.”
