Former Formula 1 boss Bernie Ecclestone publishes a Christmas card at the end of each year, which humorously describes the most memorable events of the past season. However, in 2022, Bernie abandoned his style and opted for a more traditional option.
This time Ecclestone chose a plain postcard for the message and attached to it the latest issue of the British magazine BusinessF1, which is dedicated to the late head of Red Bull, Dietrich Mateschitz.
On the card, Bernie left the following message: “I’m sure if I had embodied this Christmas card in the form I intended it to be, I would have been in more trouble than I have in the past. So I thought you’d better find out about a guy who was really good at everything in Formula 1.
I wish you a pleasant and productive 2023. Sincerely, Bernie.”
In 2007 the reason for the Christmas card was a spy scandal, in 2008 the Max Mosley scandal, in 2009 the departure of BMW, in 2010 the confrontation between Red Bull Racing drivers, in 2011 numerous incidents between Hamilton and Massa, in 2012 – the transition of Hamilton from McLaren to Mercedes, in 2013 – the signing of the consent agreement, in 2014 – numerous lawsuits about Bernie, in 2015 – an early title of Hamilton, in 2016 – the situation on the podium of the Grand Prix of Mexico, in 2017 – Chase Carey’s attempts to host multiple Grands Prix in the United States.
In 2018, the postcard was dedicated to the backstage meetings of the team leaders, in 2019 to Sebastian Vettel’s fine at the Canadian Grand Prix, in 2020 to Bernie’s paternity and in 2021 to the fight for equality.
