Lewis Hamilton mourns the victims of the recent tragedy in the US city of Uvald, Texas, where 18-year-old Salvador Ramos, armed with a semi-automatic rifle, attacked an elementary school.
His victims included 19 children and two teachers, another 17 children were hospitalized with injuries of varying severity, and two US border guards were also injured. According to the official version of the local police, the gunman was a mentally unstable person and was killed on the spot, two US border guards were injured.
“I was shocked to learn that another child has died in a school shooting,” Lewis wrote on social media. Schools should be the safest place for children. How can the United States ignore the statistics of such crimes and still allow the free trade in arms.
I pray for all the families who have lost their children. And I also pray for all the children in America who take risks every day to go to school. The statistics of such crimes are infuriating: those in power must do something, otherwise the number of victims will only increase.”
Hamilton also cites statistics: A horrific incident in Texas has already recorded 212 cases of such crimes in the United States since early 2022.
