Alfa Romeo drivers Valtteri Bottas and Guangyu Zhou are looking forward to a high scoring race weekend in Melbourne and a top ten finish with two cars.
Frederic Vasseur, Team Principal: “It’s great to be back in Melbourne after so many years. This city always gives a warm welcome to the sport and our team, proving the global appeal of Formula 1.
We’re starting Australia’s Grand Prix weekend with confidence, but little excitement: there have been some pretty noticeable changes at Albert Park, so it’ll be interesting to see how they will affect the fight on the track.
Of course, the team flew to Australia to continue earning points. We know we can fight for high positions, but we don’t forget that in every race all teams have the opportunity to take a step forward. The speed at which the machine is being upgraded is paramount this year, and we want to know if the work done since the Jeddah leg has been beneficial.”
Valtteri Bottas: “I like coming to Australia. I’ve been spending a lot of time here lately. Since my girlfriend is from South Australia, I spent most of my winter holidays with her. This is one of my favorite places to do and see.
For these and many other reasons, I’m glad we’re waiting for the Melbourne race again. Albert Park is a very interesting track and with the new configuration and new cars the fight should be more exciting.
We will try to show all our abilities because we know we can fight with most teams. I’m sure we’ll score points, but it’s important to do our job well, because we’ve already seen how competitive all the opponents are.”
Guanyu Zhou: “The race in Melbourne is very special for me. I remember watching the first Grand Prix of the season at this track for years and now I am very happy to be among the participants. I can’t wait to start at my new job. The first practice session is important to feel confident, but I don’t worry too much about it – my main goal is to get the most out of the car every weekend.
We came to Australia after two strong weekends, which convinced us how important it is to do everything right to earn points. I am sure that we will again show a high level and compete for places at the front.
I feel very comfortable in the team, I have developed relationships with the mechanics and Valtteri – the resulting confidence leads to high expectations. It will be great to get a good result in Melbourne, a city with a large Chinese community.”
