De Vries: I don’t need a manager to be visible

Serious changes are taking place in Nick de Vries’ sporting life, as he will experience his debut season in Formula 1 as part of AlphaTauri, where he replaced Pierre Gasly.

To make it easier to build a new stage in his career, last year’s Formula E champion even got a manager, although until recently he did not need such services and handled all matters himself. But now he has confidence in Guillaume Le Goff, who has been working with Gasly for a long time.

“I was just looking for someone I know well and I can trust. Moreover, I don’t need the manager to be too talkative and conspicuous,” the British tabloid Daily Express quotes de Vries. – It is very important for me to build the right relationship between me and the team. Guillaume will not interfere with this, but he will free me from all kinds of things that are happening in the background.

If I’ve learned anything over the past few weeks, it’s that I’ve suddenly made a lot of “friends” – some people I’ve never heard of before. Everyone offers something, everyone wants something to do with my business.

Once, when Pierre and I were partners in Formula Renault 2.0, Guillaume worked as an engineer in the ART team and was responsible for working on the simulator. We spent a lot of time together during that period, because we were working on improving the simulator together.”

De Vries impressed last September when he replaced the suddenly ill Alex Albon in the Williams at Monza, earning points on the first try in an almost unfamiliar car. He was then spotted by Red Bull and when Pierre Gasly’s move to Alpine F1 was confirmed, Nick became Yuki Tsunoda’s new teammate at AlphaTauri.

In addition, he will be given the role of team leader, as Helmut Marko said during the Japanese race weekend: “Yuki Tsunoda is still young and does not have the relevant experience, so Nick has to lead the team.

Let’s see what happens in reality next year, but given Nick’s experience and personal qualities, he should become the leader of the team.
