During a recent visit to Maranello, Carlos Sainz received a luxury Christmas present from Ferrari, the 812 Competizione sports car. It’s not just a more powerful and track-ready variant of the 812 Superfast – in the Spanish Scuderia driver’s case, it’s a unique, bespoke vehicle.
In the outgoing year, Carlos opened the scoring by winning the British Grand Prix, and such a gift seems like a logical reward. And the following fact speaks to the approach used at Maranello, working with VIP customers, including of course team racers: Sainz expressed his preferences to the masters of the Ferrari Tailor Made special division at the end of 2021, but only now that the car was completed.
Sainz’s Ferrari is not the classic red, but painted matt gray, it has black rims. The 812 Competizione is equipped with a 6.5-liter naturally aspirated V12 engine that develops around 819 hp. In total, only 999 cars of this version were produced, and all of them went to special customers of the Italian company.
The new sports car will join Carlos’ small collection, which already has two McLarens – the 720S and 600LT. In addition, his very first car, a Volkswagen Golf Gti, is still stored in his garage, which his parents gave to the future Formula 1 driver for his 18th birthday.
