Dan Fallows, Aston Martin’s Chief Technical Officer, said the team aims to become more independent from Mercedes in the supply of parts and components in the coming years.
Dan Fallows: “Mercedes’ help has helped us a lot in recent years, but we are forward-looking and understand that we have to be able to handle it as well, if not better, than they can. But this has yet to be achieved before any decisions are made.
All avenues are open to us in the future. Lawrence Stroll is direct about his ambitions for the team. We are evaluating ways to improve competitiveness, but at the moment I can’t say that the things we are getting from Mercedes are holding us back in any way.
And of course I don’t think the Mercedes power plant diminishes our competitiveness. It has proven its reliability and effectiveness. I don’t think the engine is the key to success in Formula 1 today.”
