Almost a year has passed since Michael Andretti signed up with the FIA to form his own Formula 1 team on behalf of Andretti Global. The company recently opened a new headquarters in Indiana, where all motorsport divisions, including the Formula 1 team, will be housed.
Michael’s father, 1978 world champion Mario Andretti, said during a stream for SoyMotor.com that he would like to see Fernando Alonso and Colton Herta racers from this team…
Mario Andretti: “It would be great to get Alonso. He has a lot of experience, for us his arrival would be an incredible event, so we will consider this matter. I think he wants to keep racing because he’s in his prime.
One of the riders who would be 99% in the squad is Colton Herta, but he needs an experienced partner. This really completes the team. This is now being discussed as part of our plan.
Our goal is to invite an experienced rider as a partner to a young talent, and one of them must be an American.”
In May, Alonso supported Michael Andretti’s idea of entering Formula 1, but now he has a multi-year contract with Aston Martin that hasn’t actually started yet, and team owner Lawrence Stroll is unlikely to agree to let the Spaniard go .
