Ahead of the Australian Grand Prix, race director Nils Wittich reminded drivers to remove jewelery before driving and to use only FIA-approved fire-resistant underwear while racing.
At the Miami Grand Prix, the FIA changed the document the teams had provided before the start of the weekend – now they must guarantee in writing that the riders have no jewelry and that the underwear meets FIA standards.
The FIA announced large financial fines in case of violations – 50 thousand euros for the first, 100 thousand euros for the second and 250 thousand euros for the third, causing the riders a two-stage delay. In theory, they should already be fined for violations in Monaco, but according to RacingNews365 the dialogue between the riders and the chairman of the FIA’s medical committee, Dr Sean Petherbridge, will continue this weekend.
The jewelry ban is being postponed to June 30, so it’s unlikely anyone will be fined this weekend, according to a source familiar with the situation. At the same time, the FIA stands ready to respond to rider requests of a personal or religious nature.
