The father of world champion Jos Verstappen spoke about his son’s best qualities…
Jos Verstappen: “Many people think that Max flies aggressively, but in my time I acted even more extreme. If I couldn’t pass an opponent, I drove through him. Max is different. This year he acts more thoughtfully, looks ahead, plans his maneuvers in advance. He has a good sense of how far he can go, where the limit is.
I really like that Max always gives the best of himself, always goes to the extreme, from the first minute of the first training session he knows what he is doing. For this he does not need an outside stimulus, someone to be caught up with. He seems to be racing himself.
Max is aggressive but on the other hand neat and handles tires very well. His tires look better than his rivals, even after more laps.
I used to worry that at some point he would relax, think wins come too easily, but that’s not the case. And this is its strength. He is extremely motivated.
Max handles pressure with ease. You have to understand that most of the press writing about Formula 1 is British. Journalists are focused on British riders, defend their interests in controversial situations, criticize the rest, but Max does an excellent job with that too.
He knows how to combine all these qualities in himself – and this makes him the best.
