In Monaco, discussions continued over the ban on wearing jewelry during races. Information emerged on Friday that the ban would be postponed to June 30 and the FIA is ready to consider rider requests on an individual basis if the wearing of jewelery is of a personal or religious nature.
When Lewis Hamilton was asked to comment on this information at the FIA’s press conference, the Mercedes driver replied that too much attention was being paid to such a trivial matter.
Lewis Hamilton “Frankly, it seems to me that too much time and effort is put into discussing this topic. In the last races I’ve said everything I had to say on this subject, and it won’t distract me this weekend.
I take off my earrings every time I get in the car and I will continue to do so. Nose piercing is not a problem. You see, the jewelry rule was introduced in 2005, but we’ve worn it throughout our F1 careers. It wasn’t a problem in the past and there’s no reason to believe it’s a problem now.
It’s positive that we are working with the FIA on this issue, and it’s good that they are helping us a little bit at the moment. However, we should not return to this discussion every weekend. We certainly have more important topics.”
