Former Formula 1 driver David Coulthard spoke in an interview with Mirror Sport about the potential balance of power in the upcoming season…
David Coulthard: “I can’t predict the future, but I’m almost certain that if Ferrari solves reliability issues and can avoid mistakes, they will fight for the title. In the new year, adapting to new cars will be much easier – everyone already knows what to expect from them.
Mercedes cars will also be fast, the team will definitely be able to win races and take part in the battle for the title. After switching to hybrid turbo engines, they had an incredible power advantage to compensate for any gap in downforce, but now the situation has stabilized.
As well as having a very good engine, Red Bull has a great car – these two factors have enabled them to dominate in 2022, and as long as the regulations remain stable they will be a formidable force.
I hope that three teams can compete for the title this year. However fast Max Verstappen is, the situation will be about the same as in the last Grand Prix of last season, when the difference between the strongest teams was minimal.
