Ferrari representatives were excluded from a recent meeting of powertrain manufacturers discussing a move to new engines in 2026.
As it became known to Racingnews365, Ferrari was not allowed to attend the meeting, which took place on December 15 last year, for formal reasons – the Italian supervisors have not applied to participate in the 2026 season before the deadline.
Initially the FIA set an application deadline of October 15, 2022, but by that date only Honda had submitted the relevant documents. Subsequently, the deadline for accepting applications was extended to the end of November, and even before it expired, the federation received applications from Alpine SAS, Honda Racing Corporation, Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains and Red Bull Powertrains.
The only exception was Ferrari, which is unhappy that Red Bull Powertrains is considered a new powertrain supplier, even though it actually uses Honda’s intellectual property. As you know, new suppliers get some concessions regarding engine testing and dynamic stand operation. Ferrari resisted giving such concessions to Red Bull.
Asked for comment, a Ferrari spokesman said the team had “no response” and declined to comment further.
