At the end of November, Oscar Piastri participated in the youth tests in Abu Dhabi for a day as part of McLaren. Australian driver Mark Webber says these tests were crucial in getting to know the team and preparing for their F1 debut this season.
Mark Webber «These tests were crucial. For someone as motivated as Oscar, getting to know the team environment was important. McLaren noticed his methodical approach, which is great. You can of course work hard at the base, but to prepare for the race it is important to get out on the track.
He liked the tests – in fact, it’s just great that he was able to take part in them. Now Oscar and the team will have a lot on their minds during the winter preparation for Bahrain.
You can call me an old man now, a fossil if you like, but in my day the riders had a lot more opportunities to work on trials than today’s youth.
Until June 2022, Oscar only worked on keys for eight days, after which he had a four-month break. Formula 1 is not at all like tennis or golf in terms of training – it is more difficult for young drivers.
