Oscar Piastri will make his F1 debut with McLaren in 2023. The Australian rider is confident that he will find a common language with partner Lando Norris, and together they will be able to take the team to a new level.
Oscar Piastri: “I can’t say I know Lando well. We chatted briefly a few times and we have several friends in common. I want to get to know him better, both personally and professionally. Our childhood careers were similar in many ways. He has already proven in Formula 1 that he is a very capable and strong driver.
Now I am looking for an opportunity to demonstrate my abilities. I still have a lot to learn and I think I can learn from Lando because he is a very strong teammate. He and I are the same age, we have mutual friends – I’m sure we will work well together and take the team to the next level – that’s the goal.
McLaren has a rich history, but most of its wins and titles came in the years I was or very young before I was born. I want to help the team get back on track and I hope my wishes are the same as everyone’s at McLaren.
The team is extremely motivated and, like me, wants more. I don’t just want to compete in Formula 1, I want to get results and hopefully win. My job is not only to get on the grid, but also to start a new chapter of success in the history of the team and my career.”
