Bottas: We were able to catch up a lot

The first day of training in Monaco was not easy for the Alfa Romeo team. Valtteri Bottas missed the first session due to a power plant problem and was only able to hit the track in the second practice, and then not immediately. And for Guanyu Zhou, it was the first experience of driving a Formula 1 car on the legendary city ring road.

Valtteri Bottas (14th): “It’s not a perfect Friday, but in the second session we were able to catch up a lot. We missed the first training session due to a power plant failure and unfortunately we had to spend two hours to fix everything because on this track every lap is important to achieve a completely comfortable driving experience.

In any case, due to the crowds during qualifying preparation, it is possible not to do so many laps, so in the third session it is important to train as well as possible. In fact, my first session this weekend was the second practice, so I gradually increased the speed.

I understand that the pace still needs to be increased, it depends on both me and the institutions, but I still believe that tomorrow we have a chance to break through into the top ten. The car has left a good impression and I know we can compete for the final of qualifying.

Guanyu Zhou (15th): “My first day in Monaco was difficult, but I really enjoyed driving this track. When you drive through these streets you really feel the speed, and maximum composure is important here.

If you want to show a good time, you have to give your best and hit the strikers lightly. It’s all very hard, so I build up the pace gradually, but it’s fun.

We did quite a few laps during the day, which was all the more important as Valtteri missed the first practice. I think we can take another step forward and prepare well for qualifying.”
