Vries: I have cut off my contact with the outside world.

AlphaTauri racer Nick de Vries is surprised that after his move to Formula 1, those who had previously lost faith in the successful continuation of his career reappeared around him.

Nick de Vries: “Some people are incredibly shameless. Those who hadn’t introduced themselves for years, who had never been my friend, suddenly got in touch again after learning that I would be racing in Formula 1. After last year’s race in Monza, people suddenly appeared in the area and wanted to receive something from me. And I had to distance myself from them.

I managed my own career and recently hired an agent to focus on racing, which reduced communication with the outside world. Now there is a feeling that everything is returning to normal.

My parents separated when I was two years old. I grew up with my father and sister. And our family has always revolved around my career, especially in the early years. Now I also need people I can rely on. I’ve known Agent Guillaume for over ten years. My sister runs the webshop and my father arranges everything in the background.

I don’t worry about how I will be perceived. Ahead of my first season in Formula 1. I want to earn respect for their performance, not what they say about me. I remain the same man as before, nothing changes in this.”
