Last year Max Verstappen set a new record for the number of wins in a single season – 15. Red Bull Racing chief race engineer Paul Monaghan believes the reigning world champion has not yet fully revealed his potential and could add more in 2023.
Paul Monaghan: “Max is a very gifted racer. In his youth he worked hard, to the credit of his father – today it is paying off. Max knows how to work with the machine and he understands what he wants to get out of technology.
Max, together with his engineers, knows how to balance the car well, how to make it easy to drive. Okay, not necessarily easy, but exactly manageable. This allows him to monitor the condition of the tires and control the situation.
Look at Max’s performance in our team – they are impressive. He couldn’t have accomplished all of this if he hadn’t been an excellent racer. Can he add? Of course he can, although of course he won’t like it when I say so.
I think there are areas where Max can get a little better. He will think about what he can add next season, and we for our part need to give Verstappen a car behind the wheel of which he can demonstrate his capabilities.
