Of the current riders, Fernando Alonso has performed the most in Australia – for the Spaniard this is the 17th stage. Before the start of the weekend at Albert Park, Fernando is optimistic…
Q: You haven’t been to Australia in four years, are you happy to be back?
Fernando Alonso: Yes, racing in Melbourne is always fun. Usually this is where the first race of the season is held, this year we arrived later – it’s interesting to understand what the weather will be like.
I love this song. It used to be difficult to overtake here, but the organizers have made adjustments. Let’s see what changes. Of course we won’t see as much overtaking as in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, but the new cars will allow you to get closer to your rivals. Theoretically, overtaking here should be easier than in the past.
Q: This year you have already had successes and failures. How do you rate the first two races?
Fernando Alonso: We deserve a higher position in the Constructors’ Championship after two races. We have a fast, economical car. In the last race I should have finished sixth until I retired. Of course we are disappointed with the turnout, but we can be satisfied with the speed of the car.
Points are awarded on Sundays, you have to drive confidently. The whole team is working on this to improve the car.
Q: In Jeddah, you and your partner had several spectacular duels. Tell about them…
Fernando Alonso: In Bahrain and Saudi Arabia it was a fair and interesting fight. We treat each other with great respect. I think we will see a lot more fights with Esteban and other racers because behind the two strongest teams the battle is very tight.
