Andretti Global has announced a partnership with General Motors – the American team intends to enter Formula 1 with Cadillac.
Former driver and businessman Michael Andretti has been trying for several years to win the right to compete in Formula 1. Late last year, Michael spoke quite optimistically, and earlier this week, FIA president Mohammed bin Sulayem announced the launch of an initiative to apply for of teams planning to compete in Formula 1.
On Thursday, Andretti confirmed that if his bid is approved, the team will compete in Formula 1 under the Cadillac brand, which is owned by General Motors. Andretti Cadillac will be based in the US, while the team will open an additional base in the UK.
Michael Andretti: “We continue to develop the family of teams that make up Andretti Global, and we are always thinking about what will be next. I believe we are well suited to the role of a new Formula 1 team, we can benefit the championship and our partners, satisfy our fans.
I am proud that GM and Cadillac will join us on this journey. We are united by a heritage born in the love of racing. We now have the opportunity to combine our passion for motorsport and our commitment to innovation to submit an American F1 bid. Together we will continue to follow all FIA regulations and procedures.
We continue to prepare with optimism and I can now officially announce Andretti Cadillac as a Formula 1 contender.”

FIA President Mohammed bin Sulayem welcomed the joint project of Andretti Global and General Motors on social networks: “I welcome the news of the partnership between Cadillac and Andretti. We at the FIA look forward to further discussions on the process of expressing interest from teams wishing to enter Formula 1.”
