Former Formula 1 driver, Audi factory team leader in Formula E and Le Mans Alan McNish spoke on the Motorsport Magazine podcast about the company’s intensive preparation program for entering Formula 1 in 2026…
Alan McNish: “The last 18 months have been very busy for Audi, especially in 2022 – I’ve never experienced this before. It seems that 2026 is still a long way off, but it is already upon us. There are still 39 months to go until the first race, everyone is eagerly awaiting it!
I remember Toyota had to triple its workforce for its F1 debut after the Le Mans program, but circumstances have changed. Then the budgets were not limited, we changed the engines of each car three times over the weekend, and now this is the number of power plants for the whole season.
When I switched from Toyota to Renault at the end of 2002, my first test lap was faster than my qualifying lap with Toyota. Between the mid-group teams and those fighting for victories, and then there was a huge gap.
