Mick Schumacher lost first practice due to MGU-K failure, but otherwise Haas F1 is happy with Friday’s results…
Gunther Steiner, Team Principal: “The day went well for the most part – except for Mick’s MGU-K problem in the first practice, which caused him to lose some important laps. In between sessions, the team prepared his car and in the second practice it worked without any problems.
It’s important that we covered a lot of distance and Kevin’s 11th place in practice two speaks for the speed of the VF-22. Hopefully tomorrow we will get more out of both machines. We use the third practice to prepare ourselves as best as possible for qualifying.”
Kevin Magnussen (11th): “With the new cars, racing in Monaco has become even more difficult. Now you literally feel all the knocks and bumps with your whole body. Many of the inaccuracies I was not aware of before.
At the entrance of the bend, the car sometimes jerks so that if you hit a bump the wrong way, you lose control of the rear. But it’s still great here. We know it’s difficult and busy in Monaco, we have to make great efforts not to hinder anyone.”
Mick Schumacher (17th): “I had some problems, especially in the morning – I couldn’t run a long distance in the first practice and then had to catch up. But we did well in the second practice and now we’re going to think about how we can make the car faster.
New cars behave differently in Monaco than they did a year ago. They don’t soften the bumps, so you literally feel them with your whole body, which affects both the car and the steering. The overall feel is a little different from last year and the approach to the settings will be different too. †
