WEC: Pietro Fittipaldi drives for Jota in LMP2

The British team Jota Sport has decided on the composition of its teams for the upcoming season: in addition to the Porsche 963 hypercars, it plans to traditionally launch the Oreca 07 LMP2 class sports prototype, which will be driven by Oliver Rassmussen, David Heinemeier Hansson and Pietro Fittipaldi.

The Brazilian, a representative of the famous Fittipaldi dynasty, already has a very extensive experience performing in various racing categories, from DTM and IndyCar to WEC and Formula 1, so it was no coincidence that Jota decided to team up with Pietro.

It should be noted that last year the riders of this team, António Felix da Costa, Roberto Gonzalez and Will Stevens, won the world championship, including winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the LMP2 class. Presumably Jota’s main goal next season is a successful debut in the hypercar class, but the team also decided not to leave the LMP2.

Pietro Fittipaldi: “I am very happy to be able to play for Jota in the 2023 season. This is a very successful team, they have a lot of experience in endurance racing and I will be happy to work with them.

One of my teammates will be David, who I already know from last season, because we raced together in the ELMS series. Oliver’s presence on the team means another great seasoned professional joins the team. I think we will be working together very soon and I can’t wait to get started as soon as possible.”

In 2023 Pietro will still serve as reserve driver for Haas F1, but there are only seven stages in the WEC and it is possible to combine work in Jota with Formula 1, although some overlaps cannot be ruled out. But on social networks, the US team has already commented on Fittipaldi’s contract with Jota: “Well done, Pietro! We’re rooting for you!”
