Carlos Sainz, a Ferrari driver, was on the radar of the stewards of the Dakar Rally Raid and was even under investigation as he was seen to have killed his father, Carlos Sainz Sr. their favourites.
During the third leg of the marathon, Sainz had to stop at a distance to repair the suspension of his Audi RS Q E-Tron E2 off-road electric car.
The son was nearby at the time, watching the progress of the repair work, and when the father and his navigator, Lucas Cruz, got back into the car, Carlos slammed her door.
This incident did not go unnoticed by the FIA representatives, who reported it to the stewards, as they saw it as a breach of the rules. The point is that during the stage, the representatives of the team are forbidden to help the riders – moreover, barring special circumstances, they must be at least one kilometer away from the car.
Although the management of the factory Audi team and Sainz Sr. assured that Carlos was not a member of the team, the stewards noted that the situation looked ambiguous from the outside.
“The stewards point out that there should be no doubt about the behavior of all members of the motorsport community,” they said in a statement. “People who are well known in the motorsport world should be an example to everyone.
It should be emphasized that Dakar 2023 is also a stage of the World Rally Raid Championship, so it is especially important to fight fairly for the result and to observe all sports principles. In doing so, it is important not only to follow the rules formulated in writing, but also to avoid situations that could raise doubts.
Given the relationship between father and son, it is extremely difficult to perceive such a situation in a completely neutral way.
