In the second practice session of the Monaco Grand Prix, Sergio Perez and Max Verstappen set third and fourth fastest times respectively, losing more than three-tenths to Ferrari rivals. Racers Red Bull Racing found that Ferrari’s backlog was greater than expected.
Sergio Perez (3rd): “We had two good sessions. The traffic made it difficult to complete a long series of circles, but we realized that we lacked speed compared to Ferrari so far. Today they were very fast, but we will analyze everything to understand how we can improve.
We assumed we would be behind Ferrari, but we didn’t think the gap would be this big. We have a lot of work ahead of us.”
Max Verstappen (4th): “We tried different settings to get the car to work the way I want it to. I’m relatively happy with how the first and second sessions went, but if I can improve the balance I can go faster. It’s pretty clear that compared to Ferrari we need to find an opportunity to add. But the main task is to achieve a better balance of the car.
The new generation cars are wider than the previous ones, and this is especially noticeable in Monaco. In addition, these machines react more strongly to bumps, but that does not matter. Yes, in terms of visibility it got a bit worse, but in Monaco it was always difficult to fly.”
