Riccardo: Monaco stage could be considered a fresh start

At a press conference in Monaco, Daniel Ricciardo was asked about Zach Brown’s comment in Barcelona that, apart from the win over Monza, Ricciardo’s performance has satisfied neither the team nor the rider.

Daniel Riccardo: “It’s true. But I don’t take comments too personally. I have a tanned, beautiful and thick skin. And no one is more critical of my performances than myself.

I don’t want to fight for 10th or 12th in a race. It is sometimes difficult to maximize the potential of this machine, but together we are working hard on it. The team wants it, I want it – we work. We found a problem with the car that prevented me from entering Spain. It’s out, this weekend we should be fully armed. You can call the stage in Monaco a new start.

I want to get more out of the car, but sometimes I understand how to do it, sometimes I don’t. Several times I had to skip sessions due to some issues, which also didn’t help. It’s a combination of several factors, but even if they were thrown out I still wouldn’t be 100% ready to work with this machine and get maximum speed out of it in all sessions.

In some races it worked, but I keep working. I would like to say that from now on I will be able to lap half a second faster and look great in every race, but it will take a little more time. I’m working on it.”
