McLaren’s results were lower last year than in 2021, but new team boss Andrea Stella is optimistic about the season ahead. According to the Italian specialist, the work at McLaren is already built at the same level as that of the three leading teams in the championship.
Andrea Stella: “In some ways we have already reached the same level as the frontrunners. An example is pit stops. We spend them very quickly and by some parameters McLaren is second or third in the pitstop speed. To become the best at this, we need another year of coordinated work.
There are other areas where McLaren is quite competitive. As an example I can give our race strategy. However, there are areas where we want to improve. For example, on some operational work in 2022, we could do better.
We still have work to do, but I can’t say there’s too much work to do. We are optimistic and are gradually making progress.”
