Otmar Szafnauer has named areas where alpine rider Esteban Ocon should improve in 2023. The team leader hopes that Okon will not collide with his new partner Pierre Gasly on the track in the new season.
Otmar Szafnauer: “Esteban needs to take a more balanced approach to making decisions when a partner is next to him on the track. Regardless of who the opponent is – a partner or a driver from the other team, it is impossible to win the race in the first round.
If you act aggressively against the other team’s rider, you can get out together – in this case, both riders lose. However, if you act aggressively towards a partner and get away with them, who will lose the most from this? As a rule, the best solution is always to wait before catching up.
Last season I was impressed with how Esteban handles pressure – he doesn’t make mistakes. Esteban has matured and gotten better in this aspect. In addition, he is a fast racer. Can he add more? Yes, and we will continue to work to make Esteban better in some areas.”
