Colton Herta was one of the contenders to replace Pierre Gasly in AlphaTauri in 2023, but the American driver failed to score enough points to be awarded a superlicence, and the FIA made no exceptions for him. In response to the federation’s decisions, Colton said that for him the topic of Formula 1 is closed, at least for a while.
Last week it was announced that Michael Andretti intends to apply with Cadillac to participate in Formula 1. Much still needs to be done under the project and it is not certain that the application will be approved, but Michael has already said that if he succeeds, he will offer a place behind the wheel of one of his cars to Colton Herta.
Michael Andretti: “We plan to invite an American rider to the squad. I think you know who’s at the top of our candidate list.
Colton drives for our team at IndyCar. We want to create an all-American team in Formula 1 and guarantee a place behind the wheel for an American driver.”
