In last season’s final race in Abu Dhabi, Sergio Perez could not beat Charles Leclerc in the battle for second place in the individual standings. However, last season proved to be the most successful season of the Mexican Red Bull Racing driver’s career and now Sergio expects to take the next step to challenge for the title in 2023.
Sergio Perez: “I am constantly working on myself. At the beginning of last season I was happy with the car, I was comfortable behind the wheel, but gradually this feeling went away. Formula 1 drivers are constantly overcoming new challenges and I feel I am now at the peak of my form. I really want to take advantage of this and start 2023 at a very high level.
We had some reliability issues at the beginning of 2022, but for me the season started well – I was involved in the title fight from the start. After that I had a few failed races and fell out of the contenders. The team and I have done some work to prevent a recurrence.
It is important to ensure the stability of the results. If our car is at the same level in 2023 as in 2022, then I can fight for the title again.”
