Mark Webber: Australian motorsport in great shape

Australian Oscar Piastri will make his debut in the new season in Formula 1, who will replace his compatriot Daniel Ricciardo at McLaren. In Formula 2, one of the contenders for the title is Jack Doohan, also aspiring for the top class. Former racing driver Mark Webber believes Australian motorsport is in good shape and we should expect to see other young Australian drivers in Europe soon.

Mark Webber “We have quite a large group of young riders on the way, but obviously not everyone will be able to get through the youth series as this is a tough call. Plus, it’s incredibly expensive, so everyone is trying to move from junior to senior series as quickly as possible.

Jack Duhan was unlucky in many ways in 2022 – it’s not his fault he didn’t become Formula 2 champion. Felipe Drugovic won by a wide margin in the drivers’ standings, but don’t forget he was in his third season in Formula 2 and had a lot of experience. In the new season, Jack will remain in the excellent team of Virtuosi and that suits him well.

Oscar Piastri in Formula 1, Jack Doohan in Formula 2, young drivers in karting, Formula 4 and Formula 3 testify that Australian motorsport is in good shape. It’s great for Australia because domestic drivers know they have a chance to continue their career abroad.”
