Max Verstappen: In the final I attacked to the limit

Sergio Perez crashed the car on the last fast lap of the qualifying final of the Monaco Grand Prix. As a result, the session was interrupted by red flags, preventing his teammate Max Verstappen from improving the result. As a result, the Red Bull Racing drivers will start Sunday’s race from the second row.

Sergio Perez (3rd): “It’s a shame my qualifying ended on the fence. That lap in the final turned out to be very chaotic because other riders did not pay attention to the breakaways and braked in the last sector.

I also had to brake, which cooled the tires. I almost lost control of the car in the first corner. I thought the tires would warm up as the lap went on, but they didn’t and I ended up overdoing it.

My apologies to the team – the mechanics are waiting for a long night, but I’m sure they will fix the car. Tomorrow I will start from the clean side of the track so it will be great if I can regain one or two positions.

Max Verstappen (4th): “Of course I didn’t expect such a result in qualifying. We tried different settings and made progress – after practice I was quite happy with the behavior of the car.

In the qualifying final I pushed myself to the limit and chose a slightly different strategy for the last attempt. I didn’t have a chance to change tires so after the first fast lap I cooled the tires and started the next attempt.

I was on a fast lap, going well, but then in corner eight I saw that the track was blocked. I was unlucky, but this is Monaco, so I have no choice but to accept such a result.

Let’s see what the weather will be like tomorrow. It will be great if I can regain some positions thanks to the rain. If not, I will try to earn as many points as possible given my starting position. All in all it was a tough weekend.”
