Helmut Marko believes Charles Leclerc should have been penalized for failing to attend the mandatory weigh-in during qualifying, although the FIA was waiting for him, and as a result Ferrari’s mechanics rolled the Monegasque car on the scales.
The Scuderia assured that they had not performed any operations with Leclerc’s car at the time, and she did not visit the team’s pits, but was almost immediately taken to the start of the pit lane, where these special scales are located. The stewards really didn’t make any claims with the team, nor did they investigate.
However, Red Bull’s motorsport adviser believes that Leclerc should have been fined. Speaking to the Austrian TV channel ORF, he said: “If this is consistently punished, as is done in youth series, then tough measures must be taken.
Leclerc drove past the scales. A fine is already owed for this in accordance with the rules, although the team has not done anything with his car. I don’t wish him any harm because he’s already had so much bad luck in Monte Carlo, but I don’t think if his car was pushed back it would undo the offense.”
Marco emphasized, however, that Red Bull Racing will not intervene in the situation and will turn to the stewards with an official complaint.
