Mick Schumacher was without a seat in Formula 1 for 2023, but will continue to come to races as a reserve driver for Mercedes. Team boss Toto Wolff believes Mick has the potential to return to the starting grid, following in the footsteps of Nick de Vries.
Toto Wolff: “I believe that if we create a comfortable environment for Mick to develop, he can become a good racer and get a spot as chief pilot. Once we helped Nick de Vries build a career – the same thing can happen to Mick, but we don’t know if it will happen in our team or another team.
This year he will have to drive a lot of the car. Mick has already driven two seasons in Formula 1, knows the tires and characteristics of the current generation of cars. He will help us a lot on the simulator and in evaluating the car.
We will be helped by his presence on the track and at technical briefings. Mick is a great young driver so it’s a plus for us to work with him.”
