New McLaren boss Andrea Stella does not believe Oscar Piastri’s lack of experience will be a factor slowing the team down into the new season. Stella is confident that the already quite experienced Lando Norris will lead the team and become a benchmark for a debuting partner.
“It is important that we have maintained continuity thanks to Lando and he will continue to guide us,” says Andrea Stella. – We know this milestone well, as the team has developed together with Lando. He has made excellent progress in terms of technical understanding and in terms of racing ability – we at McLaren know Lando very well.
It will be the benchmark for the Oscars. It’s not just about the results, it’s also about understanding the machine. That said, we want Oscar to continue on his own. He is very talented and we will focus on his opinion of the car, on his preferences, in the same way that we focused on Daniel Ricciardo’s preferences.
The team has no doubt that Oscar is talented and smart enough to take his own approach, based on his partner’s guidelines. Therefore, I am not afraid that Oscar’s lack of experience will cause the team to lose anything.”
