The day before, Porsche posted a short video on its Formula E social media account announcing the date 16/01/23 and captioning the video: “Start your engines. Something important is coming.” The intriguing message immediately sparked a lot of speculation, including that Porsche would announce the purchase of Williams on Monday.
The British Formula 1 team’s press office was quick to respond to the rumours, refuting the imminent sale but making it clear that Williams was ready to negotiate with potential power plant suppliers for 2026.
“The rumors that Williams Racing is for sale are not true,” the team said in a statement. – We are open to any discussions regarding engine supply with manufacturers from 2026, when the new engine regulations come into effect.
We are happy with the current cooperation with Mercedes and appreciate all their efforts.”
