Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff and Lewis Hamilton have spoken repeatedly about wanting to extend their contracts, which expire at the end of 2023. French business magazine Sportune has managed to find out the terms of the new agreement, which is now being discussed by the team and the rider.
If the information from the journalists is correct, Lewis will be offered a new two-year contract with a salary of 70 million euros per season, which is significantly higher than the current 45 million euros per year. At the same time, under the new agreement, Lewis is not entitled to bonus payments of 25 million euros for winning the championship.
The publication claims that 90% of the contract will be financed by Ineos, one of the co-owners of the Mercedes team. In addition, Ineos will fund the Misson 44 driver’s charity project.
In addition to extending his contract with the team, Lewis is looking to take on the role of Mercedes brand ambassador. For this he wants to sign a 10-year contract with the Daimler Group worth 25 million euros per year.
