Since last year, there have been conflicts between Ferrari and the FIA over the regulations for new power plants, which has prevented the Italian sitters from applying to compete in the 2026 season.
The FIA has set a deadline for submitting applications until October 15, 2022, but only Honda has provided the relevant documents by that date. Subsequently, the deadline for accepting applications was extended to the end of November, and even before it expired, the federation received applications from Alpine SAS, Honda Racing Corporation, Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains and Red Bull Powertrains.
The only exception was Ferrari, which was unhappy with Red Bull Powertrains being considered a new engine supplier, even though it actually uses Honda’s intellectual property.
New suppliers are given some concessions regarding engine testing and dynamic test benches, and Ferrari was against giving such concessions to Red Bull.
However, according to Corriere dello Sport, Ferrari reconsidered its position and signed a preliminary agreement with the FIA in January. Italian journalists suggest that in return for signing the documents, the FIA could make certain concessions to the Italian team, but which ones, or if any concessions have been made at all, is not known.
