Last week the appointment of former Mercedes chief strategist James Vowles to lead Williams was announced. When journalists at the head of Mercedes asked Toto Wolff whether it is possible that Vowles will return to the team in the future, Toto did not rule out such a scenario.
“I’ve always been open to future possibilities,” Racingnews365 quoted Toto Wolff as saying. – At some point, I went beyond my immediate duties and also became part owner of the team – this was a long-term decision.
I keep thinking about what I can contribute to the team. If at some point I realize that we have problems in some area – sporting, technical, commercial or political – I will not hesitate for a second and look for someone who can do it better than me. This is because as a shareholder I am interested in the prosperity and victories of the team. I spend 90% of my time on these issues, the other 10% is business or financial development of the company.
Return of James to the team? Never say never, because he is a great specialist. I hope he has a long career at Williams and I hope to see him at the traditional press conferences after a successful weekend.
He can work at Williams for ten years, just like me at Mercedes. But at this stage you need to let the chick out of the nest and let it build its life, and don’t look forward to returning.
