Last year, António Felix da Costa combined Formula E racing with endurance racing, and so successfully that he won the world championship in the LMP2 category alongside Will Stevens and Roberto Gonzales.
The Portuguese driver’s best previous achievement was the Formula E title in 2020, and now he’s also the reigning champion in one of the WEC classes – including his team’s best in this category at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
In 2023, António will have the chance to challenge for victories in the most prestigious LMDh class: British team Jota today confirmed that their latest Porsche 963 hypercar will be driven by da Costa, Stevens and Chinese driver Ye Yifei.
“In recent years we have achieved excellent results together with Jota, so I am very happy to return to this team,” said da Costa. “We are moving to a higher class of hypercars, we have completely changed partners and sponsors and I can’t wait to get behind the wheel of our new car. This is a big step forward for motorsport as a whole and we hope this year will be remembered for our achievements.”
This will be 31-year-old António’s fourth season of partnership with Jota, having previously spent three years in endurance racing for BMW Team MTEK in the GTE-Pro category.
Jota is one of two customer teams whose racers will drive Porsche 963 hypercars: in addition to it and the works Porsche Penske Motorsport, there is also the German Proton Competition, but they have not yet made a final decision on the line-up.
