Nick de Vries became a participant in a court case in the Netherlands. The lawsuit against the AlphaTauri rider was brought by a local businessman, Jeroen Shothorst, who financed Nick’s career.
In the lawsuit, Shothorst indicated that he lent de Vries 250,000 euros through his investment company. In return, the businessman expected to pay 3% per annum and 50% of all Nick’s earnings when he enters Formula 1. At the same time, the deal was terminated on the condition that De Vries would not be in Formula 1 until the end of 2022. This clause of the contract became the subject of a lawsuit.
In September 2022, Nick de Vries raced at Monza, replacing Alex Albon at the wheel of the Williams. Shothorst believes that the terms of the contract have been met and that he is due the appropriate payments, with the rider’s representatives taking a different view on this as Nick has not completed a full season.
Lawyers van de Vries said that Nick, as a reserve racer for Mercedes, paid the creditor about 190 thousand euros and was also willing to repay the borrowed 250 thousand euros, but Shothorst rejected the offer. The court in Amsterdam is expected to rule on the case on February 3.
