We have already posted a video by Charles Leclerc about the preparations for the new season. Williams rookie Logan Sargent also spoke on his blog on the team’s website about how he trains during the winter break.
Logan Sargent: “It’s been a few months since I got a contract, but I still haven’t fully grasped the reality of what happened. I’m training as hard as I can to prepare for the challenges ahead, but as a Formula 1 driver I don’t feel much different than I did in the past. I probably won’t feel it until we hit the track on Thursday in the first leg of the season.
I recently went to Portugal for a training camp with my trainer Ben. The journey was exciting, but went well! We have achieved a lot and continue to improve.
On a typical day at boot camp, we woke up at 6 a.m. and ate smoothies and snacks before our first workout. Every day the lessons were different, but especially in the morning we paid attention to cardio load to start the day well. We then had some protein for breakfast and a long run around the campsite or to the beach which was great.
After lunch, we did something less stressful – play tennis or football. At the end of the day there was a strength session in the gym with loads on the neck and torso.
I have done my best to enjoy every minute of training because I know what challenges await me this year and how high the physical strain is behind the wheel of Formula 1 cars. But I have worked for years to be in the Formula 1 to come.
I have to make sure I start the season in the best shape – that gives me the motivation to work hard. The team has already announced the date of the presentation, I am very excited, but I feel like my season has already started!”
