Grosjean: The more experience, the more I want to share it

A week later, the 24-hour marathon starts in Daytona, which kicks off the motorsport season in the United States, but qualifying races will already take place this weekend. In 2023, Roman Grosjean, the ex-Formula 1 driver, will participate for the first time in this race in the GTD Pro category with a Lamborghini sports car from the Iron Lynx team in the same squad with Andrea Caldarelli and Mirko Bortolotti, who have already won twice at Daytona.

Although Grosjean is no stranger to endurance racing, having spent a season in the FIA GT1 Championship and starting at Le Mans in 2010, he has a lot to learn in a short period of time. Until this year he had never driven a Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo2 or any other car in this category, but he was lucky that his teammates are highly experienced professionals.

“Of course I wanted to return to endurance racing, especially after the pandemic, when I sat at home and raced the virtual 24 hours of Le Mans,” Racer quoted Grosjean as saying. – I enjoyed sharing the car with other racers so much that I really wanted to participate in something like this.

In 2021 I realized that American racing is incredibly interesting, and I fell in love with it. Last year I wanted to perform in Daytona, but then it was difficult because I had just moved from continent to continent.

Roman drives for the Andretti Autosport team in the IndyCar series and will not leave open-wheeled race cars just yet, but it is possible that he will move to the WEC in the future. In 2024, Lamborghini is preparing to move to the LMDh category, but for now, Grosjean will start with a less powerful class.

“Of the various options, Lamborghini’s offering was by far the best,” he continued. – Let’s start with the fact that this is a unique brand. It is also very interesting that the company already has a project related to the LMDh category, but for now I will be happy to gain experience in the GT3 class and study American endurance races.

The more experience you have, the less you have to prove yourself and others. And then you want to share more and more. I think it’s good for me to finally work behind the wheel of a car, not alone, but with crew members, because you are together in the days of success and the days of failure.
