In 2023, Nico Hulkenberg returns to F1 as a regular driver for Haas F1 and becomes Kevin Magnussen’s new teammate. The US team hopes the 35-year-old German driver with 181 Grand Prix experience can regularly compete for points, which will allow her to move up to higher positions in the Constructors’ Championship.
“I can’t say I always count on points because I don’t know how good a new car will be,” Gunther Steiner, head of Haas F1, told RTL. “But it is Niko’s job to constantly strive for high results and to constantly squeeze the maximum out of the car. This should be done as often as possible.
I’m not too worried about Niko. It makes sense that we wondered how he would show himself, because in the past three years he had rarely participated in competitions. But he did well in testing and last year, when he came on for Sebastian Vettel at the start of the Aston Martin season, he did well.
Of course, it will take time to fully adapt and restore physical fitness. We’ll give him a few races for that, but he’s one of those guys who’s driven different cars and been in not just F1 but endurance racing, and he’s very good at accepting everything new is.
Yesterday, Haas F1 reported that Nico Hülkenberg visited the team’s base and went through the seat adjustment procedure.
