Leclerc: There are gaps in physical training, you have to train

A few days ago, Charles Leclerc appeared in the capital of France, more precisely in the Paris suburb of Bercy, where the Accor Arena sports and concert complex is located, to attend an away game of the American basketball clubs Chicago Bulls and Detroit Pistons, play in the NBA.

He did not go there alone, but in the company of Pierre Gasly and Esteban Okon, Alpine riders, and for him it was a small break in the process of intensive preparation for the season. In particular, he has recently returned from the Italian Dolomites, where he has completed training camps alongside physical training instructors and some colleagues from the Ferrari team.

“It’s time to train. After the winter holidays, I got a little fat, although, in fact, everything is not so bad, because even during this time I tried not to do stupid things, Charles said in his video report about the time spent in the mountains. “I didn’t allow myself to lean into fondue and raclette even on Christmas Day!” But it’s time to go back to work, and everything is fine. There are gaps in my physical preparation, so I have to try to close them.

The rest of the year, all you have to do is stay in shape, spend whole days training at the level of strength training we’re trying to reach now. We have to work on ourselves as intensively as possible, because preparations for the presentation of the new car, for the tests, start immediately after the training period, and we have to communicate a lot with the press. There will be no more free time, so the whole week of such training camps is almost entirely devoted to different types of training.”

Charles’ thought was continued by Andrea Ferrari, his personal trainer: “The training program now is not the same as during the season. Now he has to work much harder. During the season it is not easy, because flights and other things take too much time, so winter period is the most important time.

We started working with Charles a long time ago when he was a very young lad. And now I see how he is gradually changing, becoming wiser and physically stronger.
